OUR PROPOSALS

The proposed development has three distinct elements that combine to make up the ‘Screen Hub UK’. They are:

  • A world-class, film-inspired visitor attraction – the ‘Pinewood Studio Experience’
  • Education and business growth hubs with shared community use – ‘Centre Stage’
  • Production studios – expansion of the existing iconic Studios

Together these form part of the creative cluster in Buckinghamshire.

The project will implement the proposals contained in the Government’s Creative Industries and Tourism Sector Deal and the Buckinghamshire Local Enterprise Partnership Local Industrial Strategy, and comes at a time when the need for investment in economic recovery has never been higher.

ATTRACTING

This is a visitor attraction that is rooted in the place and history of Pinewood Studios, which will tell a story of Pinewood and film-making including references and experiences of some of the famous and iconic film franchises. It will be designed to build on the heritage of Pinewood and will include:

  • an exhibition experience – on the set & behind the scenes
  • tour of ‘live’ studios
  • ‘immersive’ digital realities

This would have a national and international draw, which is estimated to attract up to 2 million visitors a year and would create a major tourism boost for the UK and Buckinghamshire.

LEARNING

Centre Stage is a multi-functional hub that will provide education and business growth, allowing for:

  • schools, visits and interpretation/outreach
  • film production training (schools/college sponsored)
  • film craft/crew school
  • adult education (for employment & interest)
  • employment reskilling (responding to change)
  • community outreach (sharing and engaging)

ENTERPRISING

A business growth hub will promote the skilling of people to work in the industry and the development of business to help service the industry. This would harness the depth and breadth of the experience and activity at Pinewood Studios and would include:

  • start ups incubator
  • services and accommodation
  • advice and mentoring
  • connections into wider creative cluster

The illustrative layout plans below show different ways in which the application site could be developed to bring forward the different parts of the Screen Hub UK.

We are currently preparing an outline planning application to agree the principle of development and parameters. Details such as building design and layout will be decided at a later date through future planning applications. Once we have finalised our plans, we will submit the outline application to Buckinghamshire Council, which will undertake its own formal consultation before making a decision on the application.

ACCESS AND MOVEMENT

To bring forward the proposals, highways improvements will be provided at Five Points Roundabout and Sevenhills Road.

In September 2020, Buckinghamshire Council’s Strategic Sites Committee resolved to grant planning permission for the Sevenhills Road Upgrade. Creating an improved route between Pinewood and the A412 Denham Road towards the M40, as well as providing another route to the M40 and M25.

As part of the 2014 planning permission for the expansion of the Studios, improvements to the Five Points Roundabout were granted and committed. A new permission will now be sought to provide junction improvement works at the Five Points Roundabout.
